Sophilabs at Collision 2019

In May, we had the opportunity to attend Collision, "the fastest growing tech conference in North America." 1 Held at the Enercare Center in Toronto, Canada, Collision brings innovators, entrepreneurs, and world leaders together to discuss important topics in tech. In addition, startups have an opportunity to showcase their work on Collision's exhibition floor.

This year, Collision hosted 25,711 attendees from 125 countries and featured 730 speakers, including Prime Minister Justin Trudeau; Peggy Johnson, Executive Vice President of Business Development at Microsoft; Ev Williams, Founder and CEO of Medium; and Mona Siddiqui, Chief Data Officer at the US Department of Health and Human Services. The expo was buzzing with 1,100 startups demoing products in a wide variety of fields, including enterprise software solutions, AI & machine learning, fintech, marketing, medtech, ecommerce, education, social media, and hospitality. 2

Sophilabs was among these innovators, participating in Collision's ALPHA program for promising early-stage startups. On the first day of the conference, we showcased Convexa, an enterprise voice assistant developed by our team that utilizes machine learning to efficiently retrieve data, streamline workflows, and offer helpful insights. We were able to pitch this product to many investors over the course of the conference and discuss a myriad of potential use cases, making great contacts along the way. We were especially excited to meet with Ilya Gelfenbeyn, Head of Google Assistant Investments and co-founder and CEO of Dialogflow. Ilya gave us very positive feedback and some key insights to help us make Convexa even better.

The remaining three days of the conference provided many opportunities to learn about relevant issues and trends in tech as well as network with potential clients for our software development services. We want to give a special shout-out to Uruguay XXI, whose stand at the expo created a welcoming place for us and other innovators from Uruguay to connect with international investors interested in the growing tech industry in Latin America.

At sophilabs, we're passionate about being active members of the tech community, and attending events like Collision is one way for us to achieve that. It's exciting to see so many different people come together to share knowledge and ideas about the potential of tech to solve real problems. We hope to attend this outstanding event again in future years.
